WVEIS - West Virginia Education Information System

WVEIS PROJECT HISTORY

The WVEIS project was created in 1991 by the state of West Virginia to ensure standardized data collection and reporting to the West Virginia Department of Education.  By consolidating individual county computer systems into several larger RESA based systems, reporting processes were streamlined and individual county expenses were reduced. The WVEIS project has grown to include every county Board of Education office and school in West Virginia, 8 RESA offices, and the State Department of Education.

APPLICATIONS SUPPORTED

Student applications on the WVEIS network include student scheduling, student attendance, student grading, and several custom programs.  Financial and employee applications include payroll processing, human resources, fixed asset inventory, warehousing, and purchasing.

WVEIS AT RESA 8

The WVEIS program at RESA 8 currently supports a total of 8 county school systems, which includes a total of 98 schools, and the WV School for the Deaf and Blind.  The system operates on an IBM AS/400 Midrange computer located in Nitro, WV and is shared with all regions of West Virginia.  RESA 8 serves over 3,500 users and connects over 3,000 workstations to the network.

RESA 8 provides support for this program by providing the installation and maintenance of communication equipment and software, software training for all users, and help desk support.  Our WVEIS Specialist works extensively with school personnel and financial managers to provide a high level of service to WVEIS users.

Web Based WVEIS

A web based WVEIS system was introduced in the fall of 2007.  This system can be utilized by WVEIS users with their existing WVEIS User Id and password.  At the present time only Student based programs are available.  Eventually all areas of the WVEIS system will be included within the Web Based WVEIS system.

WebinteractiveTM

WebinteractiveTM is an internet based remote assistance tool that allows RESA 8 staff to provide technical assistance to county and school personnel.  In some cases it may save a trip to the school which saves both time and money.  The process is completely safe and secure and creates only a temporary link to the remote PC.  WebinteractiveTM will work with versions of Microsoft WindowsTM 95 through Windows 7 and does not require any other software on the remote computer.

RESA 8's WVEIS office hours are from 7 AM until 4 PM, Monday - Friday.  Our staff may be reached at (304) 267-3564.
